Hey - I'm the type of gal that calls it like I see it. The reason why COd 4 and WaW are still going strong is because of PC gamers, not console crybabies. So, instead of staying strong and joining in on our fight, people went out and bought it any way.

They will come crawling back - they always do :)

For anyone still thinking of buying this game it might be an idea to have a look here, this is what you could be sleep walking into.

http://uk.pc.ign.com/articles/104/1044979p1.html

and there is a very good thread about mw2 over at pbbans

here http://www.pbbans.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=104775&st=440

read from page 23 - 25

Quote :
I got it for cheap so it was worth trying. Plus I can now give my
experience and hope it educates others. I never played a P2P based FPS
so IW asked us to try it and I did. After playing it I must say ...
NEVER again. People trusted IW and bought it without reading the REAL
reviews. They look at reviews at places like IGN and see 9.5 then run
out to buy it. The only reason I see MW2 being so popular now is
because if the rank system. MW2 just proves my point that rank in FPS
games today is used to cover the games flaws in a hope to keep players
playing the games.

I find MW2 at times is more like Counter Strike with laggy hitboxes
where you kill people by shooting the air behind them. Some say the
system is fine but I'm willing to bet they live in or near a city or
highly populated area with large numbers of MW2 players. Because I live
farther away I spend more time in the lobby, more lag, more
disconnects, ect. When the player count dies off, IWNet will only get
worse for people like me.

The host DOES have an advantage. I was the host a few times and it was
just like playing MW1 for hitboxes. Every shot hit the mark. Then there
is the IRC like problem of Netsplit. This is where the match is about
to start or started and one team gets booted. I've seen it in a 8v8 and
the entire team was booted. What does IWNet do? It ends the game
because it doesn't have autobalance and the change team function is
disabled. I've also noticed people don't join while in game but instead
at intermission.

And the 18 players max, well that is for one game type only. Rest are
12 max and some are 8 max. Maps in MW2 are bigger than MW1 so I find
myself running (Yes unlimited sprint perk) around trying to find people
a lot in TDM. With that the camping is bad, all they do now is hide
with heartbeat sensors and see you coming. I was so bored last night I
went back to a 40 slot MW1 server where I played 3 maps and they were
all more fun then my entire experience with MW2.

I tried it and I dislike it. If anything MW2 just shows me how much I love MW1.

Sorry to bring this up again, but it seems to me that certain people still don’t fully understand what Infinity Ward are trying to do with this dumb down console port of a game.
It has nothing to do with trying to make a better online gaming experience for the gamers and everything to do with making more profit out of the gamers!

This new “model” will give them complete control of who plays what, where and for how much!

Read this
http://uk.pc.ign.com/articles/104/1044979p1.html

You can expect “paid for” DLC and if the pc gamers accept this new “model” on future titles there could be monthly fees for online play as they do on the consoles.

Infinity Ward are trying to set a precedent, if this is deemed to be a success you can expect other software companies to go the same way.

Are you a Doom 3 player? Looking forward to Doom 4 and think this doesn’t affect you? THINK AGAIN!

Take a look here

www.videogamer.com/news/carmack_dedicated_servers_unlikely_for_rage.html

Looks like “id’s” latest FPS game “Rage” will not have dedicated servers and there’s a hint at doom 4 as well!

The days of Dedicated Servers, FREE custom mods and maps as well as FREE online play could soon be a thing of the past and not just on the Call Of Duty series!

The PC gaming community needs to WAKE UP and smell the coffee.

The boycott wasn’t difficult, all you had to do was not buy this one game!

As you can you tell, I’m really not happy about this.

Doom 4 I think WILL have dedies. I think ID is trying to do that codemasters did for GRID, and that worked well because it fits the racing structure. I think iD are intelegent to know that FPSs NEED dedies.

You would like to think that IW were intelligent enough to know that FPSs NEED dedies, but then look what happened.

what part of this do you think means we will have dedicated servers for doom 4 ?

Quote :
"It’s not cast in stone yet, but at this point no, we don’t think we will have dedicated servers," said Carmack. It's
a decision that, as Infinity Ward has discovered, has the potential to
anger many of the developer's hardcore fans. Carmack admits that he's
pleased not to be pioneering the move away from dedicated servers."The great thing is we won’t have to be a pioneer on that," he said. "We'll see how it works out for everyone else."

This irks me. You have a dedicated fan base of fps-ers, that have basically kept your games on the map because of MODS and loyalty, and they insist on slapping us in the face! I swear, I will become a WoW nerd (hardcore) if this continues to become the trend.

I know you need more people the problem though is my COD4 skills suck and I play like a madman since I bought UT3.

I could get on more but I think about MW2 and other things and I don't really get in the COD spirit.

I think The shamefully weak presence
of gamers out there.. not advocating
for complete and free access to MW2
by boycotting it... at the outset is
incomprehensible and completely short
sighted.

Why change such a successful game
other than corporate greed.

We could...

wow......ouch .....i will say this for the last time. MW2 was fun (its no longer fun cause everyone has it and ppl either hack or are just jackass douche nozzles) i enjoyed heavily the time i had with it(so to me it was still worth the money), especialy the single player. BUT i have moved on to BFBC2...as for COD4...after MW2 and BFBC2...it just feels.....dated..not to say i wont play it anymore...but just not near as much

I think in part it's the developer's moving to favour consoles over PC that is causing them to drop dedicated servers. Having to sift through a list of ping times and server flags to find the game you want is not considered user friendly and so they're trying to dumb the process down by removing dedicated servers for casual and console gamers who know little to nothing about these things.

Personally I don't like it, however with internet connections getting faster all the time the possibility of not needing dedies is becoming more and more feasible. The problem I have is the complete lack of control we get with these new systems. How many times have we had to return to lobby in L4D because it picked a laggy server, or a low gravity server, or 16 player modded server? If they just trusted users to be smart enough to pick their own server (something I think 90% are capable of - people are pretty computer literate and learn quickly these days) all those annoyances would be eliminated.

The next version of "Call Of Duty" think its called "black opps" is rumored to have dedicated servers

also is there not a dedicated server browser in l4d2? im sure if you open the console with the tild key and enter "openserverbrowser" you get a full server browser with all the usual search filters as well as location of server ect..

Although I dont play very often, so I could be wrong.

Yeah there is, but I find it pretty much useless, since 90% of the servers are empty or full and without many filter options for game type etc. They could have made it good quite easily, but like some1 said a few posts back it seems like the old school gamers who would have liked these functions are being forgotten in place of the new kids coming in that just want to be able to join any game within 10 seconds of starting the game up.

I think the way L4D and L4D2 gaming is set up works for it, with the only bad part being that the lobby leader usually has the server advantages.
I'm a younger member, but I still like having to set up a browser to my liking. I would hate having to jump into a Headquarters or FFA game on CoD4, since those are the modes I like the least. Perhaps the PC version was made exactly like the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions to make less work for the producer, or to dumb things down for the noobs that don't know how to work a computer.

Kotick hopes for Call of Duty "online subscription service"
by Alec Meer

Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick has expressed interest in creating a paid online world based on the Call of Duty series.

Speaking to the Wall Street Journal last week, he revealed his interest in making the shooter a fee-based product.

"I would have Call of Duty be an online subscription service tomorrow," he said. "When you think about what the audience’s interests are and how you could really satisfy bigger audiences with more inspired, creative opportunities, I would love to see us have an online Call of Duty world.

"I think our audiences are clamoring for it. If you look at what they’re playing on Xbox Live today, we’ve had 1.7 billion hours of multiplayer play on Live. I think we could do a lot more to really satisfy the interests of the customers."

While he said this was something he would want to do with "a snap of his fingers", his response to whether the company was actively looking at it was simply "hopefully."

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was 2009's biggest-selling title, shifting some 20 million units. This year's Call of Duty: Black Ops sports the long-running series' highest number of pre-orders to date.

OK, this is becoming complete BS. He is obviously a console player, noting ONLY the amount of time played on the Xbox Live service. As of checking right now on Xfire.com, CoD4 has had 95,104 hours of gameplay JUST TODAY. That pales in comparison to what MW2 has so far today, just 30,646 hours so far. That's not even A THIRD of what CoD4 has. I mean, ffs, CoD2 has more time than MW2. How bad is it when the second game in the chain has more time than the most recent? This guy is talking about "satisfying the interests of the customers." Oh really? To accomplish this goal, he needs to take his head out of his ass, brush his teeth so no more shit comes out of his mouth, and pay attention to the large amount of the customers that he lost when he didn't listen to all of them.

Sigh again.

Quote :
If Activision Blizzard CEO, Bobby Kotick, has his way, a future generation of television-compatible PCs could, perhaps, provide a viable alternative to a videogame consoles, according to a report by the Financial Times.

In comments related to discussing the subscription revenue enjoyed by Microsoft for Xbox Live, and Activision’s desire to run their own suscription-based service for franchises like Call of Duty, Kotick revealed that he believes the gateway to this goal could be expanding the scope of PCs with regard to gaming, given the open nature of the platform.

“We’ve heard that 60 per cent of Microsoft’s subscribers are principally on Live because of Call of Duty,” Kotick commented. “We don’t really participate financially in that income stream. We would really like to be able to provide much more value to those millions of players playing on Live, but it’s not our network.”

The Blizzard-developed World of WarCraft is presently a major source of subscription-based revenue for the company, so it’s easy to understand why Kotick, an outspoken proponent of subscription-based payment models, is keen to replicate this success with his company’s other franchises. One step toward this goal, he says, will be to “very aggressively” support efforts by Dell and HP to connect PCs to televisions, with the help of “gamer friendly” PCs built for this purpose.

“We have always been platform agnostic,” he continued. “Consoles do a very good job of supporting the gamer. If we are going to broaden our audiences, we are going to need to have other devices.”

Where can I email this guy about his complete ignorance?

He is focused on the consoles instead of everything. And building a "gamer-friendly PC"? Are you shitting me? PC's are pretty much gamer friendly if you know wtf you're doing. Besides, how much more revenue do you need when you have over 11 million people paying $15 a month for WoW? In one month they can probably pay all their bills and employees and still have half the revenue left over. WoW is has so much content in it it makes sense to pay for it, but how much can you fit into the CoD franchise without the help of Modders and Mappers? Everything gets old sometime, and that's where those two groups fit in. And connecting TV's to PC's WTF ARE U STUPID IT'S CALLED A FRIGGIN MONITOR!!!11!!11!!

This guy is so stupid it's awe inspiring. I need this guy's email or something.
