Rabid,

I am glad that your spouse received a promotion and that you are financially set. However, many people invested their hard-earned money into these markets. I am not trying to be doom and gloom but the reality is this - people are losing their homes and jobs. Even individuals with college degrees are having a hard time trying to find work just to make ends meet. The prices on food, gas, and just basic necessessities are increasing while paychecks/hours are getting cut! And this is not just here in America my friend. Things are tough all over!

I am ok, but make no mistake, I am damn scared because mister, many are just one paycheck away from being homeless!

OK, that's my opinion - course I could be wrong ....

yes things are tough i agree

but its not as bad as its made out to be, the media always hype everything, which inturn make people scared

theres still alot of money, m&s 6.5% down, wow, only making 940million instead of over a billion Shocked
house prices gone down, they needed to, way overpriced, there was noway my kids could afford one

ok my business is not as good as last year, but people are still spending

it will all blow over soon, take petrol(gas), everyone here in uk up inarms at petrol prices, now no one mentions it, we as humans get used to things very quickly and forget

by next year i think it will be much better, my opinion

Mr ninja you raise an interesting point about freedom of speech, should goverment intervene?definately not,do they?proberly, but what we need is a bit of perspective here, like beast says m and s didnt make there billion just 940 mill cmon man!! The ownus is on news paper editers and news producers to give some ballanced reporting here.unfortunately in this information tech word nowadays papers and tv are having to compete with a proliferation of new news channels ,internet,3g mobile ect and will always go for the sensational headlines,it seems news producers value veiwer rattings more than content.

ps excuse the bad spelling, product of a seventies education im affraid

Job security.

It's long been my contention that the Government, in collaboration with the media - especially it's tame lapdog the BBC [ isnt it ironic that we pay for their propaganda machine ] have been spewing out, over the last few years, black and grey propaganda aimed at demonizing those who receive any sort of welfare benefits. Its going to be nice to see a few of the ‘I pulled myself up by my own bootstraps NuLabour supporters become part of the unwashed, lazy, feckless, sponging masses which they so despise. Its a pity that some of those greedy little City boys wont be making their way down Dole Avenue with their pooper-scoopers like many of the real unfortunates in this NuLabour, Neo-Stalinist ‘democracy in which we exist.

Social injustice and the rich/poor gap has undoubtedly increased under the NuLabour regime and it's little wonder that they manage to keep the masses under the illusion that it's otherwise when they have so many marvelous propaganda machines which brainwash so many people into willingly accept their spin at face value and blindfold them into not bothering to think the issues through for themselves. It's only at times of great economic hardship that personal experience of that hardship makes people realise that they are only a heartbeat away from being that person receiving those 'benefits' through no fault of their own - then the blindfold is finally removed. ....Is there a bright future ? YOU TELL ME.!!! : Rolling Eyes

"Democracy" thats a matter of opinion.but thats another argument
skin i think i agree with you, think were comming from the same place here.I too share a deep mistrust of our media, especially since murdock stepped in and virtually took over every news outlett.man politicians carrying favour to keep their jobs,it stinks.you take that road and its you scratch my back and i scratch yours.not to mention the fact that news now seems to be entertainment to some people, live breaking news 9/11, shock and awe,man what a disgusting piece of shit that was, people being blown away live in your living room at prime time tv slot,f**k that!!! i could go on but you get the jist

Tell me about it Ninja.

Working in sales for T-Mobile is killing me..yesterday I had NOT ONE CUSTOMER...everyones credit is bad, no one can get a cell phone or afford one...I'm not making any commission, I wanted to finnally quit my second job but i don't see that happening now, normally by middle of the month I should of racked up about 600 in commision...i'm only at 319. This is not gonna be good for all Americans.

Beast, you say that the media is hyping it up abit..They are but not that much. Everyone is feeling this one.

As for being an economics major..We talk about this crisis everyday...and you know what..we don't see this ending anytime soon...we predict the stock market may get as low as 4000.

Not good my friends.

PostSubject: Re: Economic Crisis   Thu 16 Oct 2008, 8:48 pm

The economic crisis has hit here bad, started about 2 years ago by black money in the construction sector including back handers to municipal authorities and ilegal recalification of land and too much building going on all this has nuked the construction sector and sent shock waves throughout the rest of the business sectors.

Many town halls got raided and politicians sent to jail because of their greediness and a lot of dirt has been uncovered.

I worked in a real estate company up until january and 3 of us got made
redundant for the company to cut costs. Also, many many people have lost their jobs and busineses have closed down because people dont want to spend. This area thrives on real estate and turism and the crisis has put the fear into investors making the sector a buyers market and turists now look for a more economic holiday.

Its really difficult getting a job, I have one for about 6months and I get paid half what I used to get, have to cut down on spending and find it extremely difficult getting to the end of the month, but have found a way to gain interest on some savings which will come in very handy.

All in all its the same story as always, cost of living increases while salary is frozen.

btw, last week I paid 1,13€ per litre of diesel.

It seems we have come full circle.

During the past twenty years there has been an upsurge of confidence in Scotland. To a great extent it has been based on the success of our financial services industry. This has not only become Scotland’s biggest private-sector employer but the standard-bearer of what has been seen as a Scottish renaissance. It’s the mast to which the SNP has pinned its colours and, thanks to the apparently successful enterprise of the banks, Alex Salmond has been able to promise that an independent Scotland would become part of an “arc of prosperity” stretching across the small European countries of the north Atlantic. Salmond’s promise looks a bit tarnished today. It seems there's no cure for greed!. scratch
